With Covid-19’s restrictions beginning to fade out slowly but surely, couples are ready to
celebrate their union the right way again! Moreover, the oppression endured for the last
two years brought new ideas, new wishes and new trends for couples ready to take the big
step toward this new start as a married couple. So yes, wedding is still a thing (more than
ever)! The team of Lexia Wedding Designer in Mauritius made a list of 2022’s biggest
trends concerning weddings so that you can get inspired and say yes in style.
1/ Breaking the rules
The feeling of being forced to (stay inside, avoid hugs, avoid gatherings etc.) brought
wedding celebration to new level. It became a way for couples to express themselves freely
without thinking of what aunty Huguette (we all have this do-this-do-that family member) is
going to say. Couples want to be bold in 2022. Covid showed us that life’s too precious to
care about judgements. We were recently brought to create nontraditional weddings and it
was amazing! Reception-only’s, out-of-the-ordinary design, unusual culinary choices…
2/Close persons only weddings
Micro-weddings are clearly something to consider in 2022. While some prefer to have a
blast after Covid-19’s restrictions, others prefer the intimacy of well-known people to share
this precious moment. Micro-weddings allow us as wedding designer to create such cozy
spots and bring a sense of familiarity to the celebration. If you are one of these couples who
don’t need a large number of people to enjoy yourselves on the Big day, then, a personal
reception is something you can plan having.
3/Giant parties
Even though those big blasts’ style celebration were starting to disappear before Covid
announcement, they are definitely back. A lot of couples want to kill two birds in one stone
by using marriage as an occasion to invite all their family members and friends they haven’t
seen in two years or more. There’s this craving to see the people we know and love.
Weddings are a good way of throwing a big party to bond again with our relatives.
Abundance and shiny receptions are back to make a wedding day a once in a lifetime
moment.
4/Under the sun weddings
Destination weddings are a must in 2022 if you are a traveler. Vaccination and travel
restrictions loosening are really a trigger. After all this time waiting and having domestic
weddings-only, people want to live their love in exotic countries. Mauritius is one of the
best destination for this, incredible weather all year long and lovely beaches. We’ve had a
lot of “week-end weddings” recently where the couple come to Mauritius to celebrate their
weddings with friends and family. The jolly group would stay together in a hotel the whole
weekend with the reception, daytime activities, day-after brunches. There’s a real wish of
marking the event for 2022’s couples entering their new life.
5/Exceptional Table decorations
Less focus on the ceiling more on tabletops this year. With outdoor weddings celebrations
exploding after Covid-19, particular attention is to be given to tables. So, all eyes are on the
dishes, the flowers’ arrangements. Plus, couples are more on the stand-out side these days,
they want dried fruits, country toiles, rare flowers and a lot of candles. Everything to create
unique table décor to stay on the bold side.
6/Focusing on the guests’ experience
Planning a lovely entertainment, a unique DIY note on special guests’ plates, champagne or
Martini towers. These days, your wedding is an escape gathering because of this crazy
pandemic. Think of it as a long-awaited party for your guests to unwind and release all
tensions. They should have fun and feel that time has stopped for the day or night at your
wedding. As wedding throwers, we can give them their spark back, sharing, dancing and
laughing together again. We are social beings, let’s never forget that.
